Corsets have been seen absolutely everywhere this season, from top fashion brand catwalk shows to high street shops, everyone and their nan seems to be loving it. But what is the huge appeal to the corset and why are people bringing it back on trend today?
Inspired by the Victorian era, the corset focuses on accentuating the female silhouette and waist, making it look as small and as slim as possible, which is one of the many reasons people are hopping on the fashion bandwagon today. Also with thanks to Netfix shows such as 'Brigdgerton' and 'The Crown' which heavily features the corset throughout, women are dying to give this trend a shot. Fashion enthusiasts of all niches can put their own spin on this trend, whether that be street style, high fashion or punk rock- there is a way to wear the corset that will suit everyone's personal style.

There is a major sense of freedom when it comes to styling a corset. Ways to wear include dressing it up with heels and jeans, dressing it down with joggers and trainers to channel your inner 'Kardashian' or even wear it as more of a belt over a t-shirt, the choices are endless, it doesn't get more versatile than that, does it?
Although the Victorian era featured mainly lace up back corsets with boning and structure, which many are still opting to wear today, it has had it's own spin put on it in 2021. Corset tops and dresses come in so many different styles such as cropped versions, bodysuit versions, dress versions and even tops that look like corsets but are much more comfortable to wear out. The trend gives women a shot of confidence and gives them a sultry but sleek feel to their look.
When asking my Twitter followers what they thought of the Corset Trend through the use of a poll, the feedback that was returned showed that the majority of people love the corset trend and would in fact wear it themselves.
The corset allows women to accentuate their waists publicly and free, without shame. Long gone are the days of shamefully wearing body shaping underwear under your clothing to hide any bumps or rolls, now you can just throw on a corset which does all the shaping, whilst looking on trend at the same time. "I love the corset trend and I think it's a really positive thing that we are moving past the need for waist trainers and spanx, which are usually hidden. I like that it is a trend because it allows you to accentuate your figure and curves without the shame and secretiveness that comes with 'shape wear' underwear."
In the 2021 spin of things, corsets can be seen worn by everyone and guaranteed if you scroll down your Instagram feed you will see at least one person rocking the trend. Online stores such as Pretty Little Thing and Oh Polly have been seen to design and sell thousands of these pieces in varieties of styles and colours. Some of the most popular sellers have been materials such as silk, jaquard and satin give a sexy lingerie feel to them, adding a seductive and mysterious twist to the Victorian classical corset.

People have been buying their corsets from online clothing brands all across the UK such as Boohoo, Missguided and even Amazon have started selling corsets at a low cost. This allows people to buy and wear the trend without having to splash out on a real vintage corset from decades ago. Student Hannah Coyle (@hannahhcoyle) said:
"I love that corsets are back in fashion! especially the affordable ones everyone has been buying off Amazon."
Corsets are not only good for fashion and styling, but in fact have been proven to help with posture in the long term scale of things when worn properly. Wearing a corset makes it almost impossible to slouch, sit or stand with bad posture which keeps you away from back pains whilst also being a positive for your overall posture and appearance. Another benefit of wearing a corset is that they can reduce pain for women with larger breasts as it provides them with support for their breasts and also their back. What's not to love about them?
A seemingly extremely popular aspect to the corset coming back into fashion that people have been loving is the fact that the corset adds a traditional vintage twist to any outfit and gives them a touch of class. I asked my Instagram followers what they thought of the trend and the feedback that was returned was mainly positive as a whole.
