TripAdvisor: Why Leaving Reviews Is So Important

Tripadvisor is one of the biggest and most well-known sites in the world, it's platform allows people to get an insight into restraunts, hotels, and days out all over the world. In this blog post, I am going to share with you reasons why leaving reviews on TripAdvisor is so important, and why you should begin reviewing today.

Even if you don't use TripAdvisor to read reviews of the place you are going to before you visit, it doesn't mean you cannot leave reviews of your own. I will rarely use TripAdvisor to read other people's reviews, as I like to make my own decision and not be influenced by other people's opinions- but there is a huge percentage of the world who are the opposite and will do research into the place they are visiting before help them decide on whether they want to visit or not, and this is why leaving reviews is so critical in this day and age. This is especially important for local restaurants and hotels, as many rely on word of mouth to bring footfall to their stores- they dont have the money to be spending on adverts and billboards to promote their businesses.

This is where TripAdvisor comes in, for someone who searches for places to eat or stay in the local area, businesses are wanting their name to come up first and with plenty of reviews and praise. If there are no reviews, or worse- bad reviews, the likelihood of that person visiting is extremely low. In this digital age, everyone in the hospitality sector should worry about the reviews and ratings that they are getting from customers. Many people who are looking for a restaurant to sample always say that the first thing they do is to check the reviews and ratings that the restaurant has received. It influences their choice of whether they will visit or not.

Tripadvisor reviews not only bring footfall to the store, but also motivates employees- when reviews are left in light of a certain person, they are likely to be praised for it resulting in a better work environment. Not to mention these reviews also show areas that the business needs to work on and improve. The top three reasons customers write reviews are to help others make a better buying decision, to share an experience, or to reward a company for good performance.

So why do people write reviews? Consumers are more inclined to write reviews when the experience they’ve had strikes an emotional chord, whether positive or negative. If a consumer has had a very poor experience, they’ll write a review in order to vent frustration and anger, especially if they feel personally mistreated or wronged. In the same manner, if a consumer has had an exceptionally good experience, they’re likely to applaud the company with a good review to help the company succeed. This is more frequently the case when the company is small and locally run.

I have been leaving TripAdvisor reviews for years now, and have over 200 reviews on my page. I don't only leave these reviews of places for all the reasons above, but I also treat them as my own little travel journal. I love looking back and seeing places I have been and what I liked and disliked about them. It's also really useful when recommending places to people, as I can go back and get the exact photos I took of the food/hotel to show others.

So now is your sign! Get yourself on TripAdvisor and start leaving reviews now, for the benefit of your local restaurants and hotels who are needing it more than ever just now after the impacts of covid, and so you can look back on all the places you have been over the years, you won't regret it!
