Autumn Nail Trends 2022

Updated: Sep 15, 2022

Let's talk about Autumn 2022 nail trends.

As summer 2022 comes to an end, we will start to see less of the bright neon and pastel nail art, and start to see the revival of the classic autumn nail trends. But what will be trending this Autumn in terms of nail combos?

90s Grunge

First up is the 90s grunge. This is the classic 90s style, but instead of taking the Y2K route, we will start to see moodier, more dark, and grungey nail designs. This will feature lots of pops of black, whether that be black french tips or black designs throughout the nails. A classic example of this is the Deisel campaign, where we can see a dark navy black gunmetal polish on the nails, which is guaranteed to be a hit this autumn. I have also already seen a lot of people with overly pointed spike nails, with very grungey patterns throughout as well as the roman style writing, which I know a lot of people will be opting for this Autumn.

Cargo Continues

Cargo pants have taken over the world, everywhere you look there are girls rocking khaki, black, and brown cargo jeans and joggers. We are going to see this same colour palette and move into the nail world. Expect to see khaki greens, chocolate browns, the barely there nudes as well as seeing these colors mixed with the vibe of 90s grunge. Not to mention camouflage nails starting to come back into fashion this Autumn.

The Classic French

We are going to see the revival of the classic french manicure. We have seen a lot of colorful french manicures this summer, with patterns and designs throughout- but this Autumn is going to be about the all-classic french lady manicure style, whether that be thick or thin tips. We have seen all the celebs rocking this already, such as Kim Kardashian at the Met Gala as well as Camilla Cabello and Bella Hadid.

The Glazed Doughnut

Next, I'm sure a trend we have all seen or heard about in the nail world, the viral Hayley Beiber nails. These took the world by storm and can be seen all over Instagram and Pinterest and on almost every Instagram influencer in the Instagram world. These nails are here to stay this Autumn, we are going to continue seeing the classic iridescent white, as well as the iridescent white tips. Something else we will start to see is blue and pink iridescent polishes, as well as sheer shimmer polishes over the basic white.

Naked Metals

This is one nail trend I am super excited for this Autumn. This trend is going to be all about negative space and using pops of metallics, such as gold and silver. We will see a play on textures with chrome drip nails, as well as lots of gold foil nails which was a huge nail trend back in late 2019. I can't wait to hop on this trend!

Red Returns

Red nails have been totally out of the game for a good bit now, and it is something you see a lack of these days, especially in the nail world unless you are 50+ getting your nails done for a Christmas party. Not to worry, this Autumn we will see a spike in red polishes. We are going to see specifically a lot of dark, ruby/burgundy red, which also ties back into that 90s grunge vibe. We will also see that bright cherry red making a comeback, especially in more abstract nail designs which can be seen all over Pinterest at the moment.

Pop Of Pearl

Piggybacking off of the classic french tip, another huge trend this Autumn will be the pearl trend. This trend is going to majorly pave the way for more 3D design nails in the next few months. I've seen a lot of people getting these nails for weddings, as they are super minimal and classic. These designs are also all about negative space and nudes, with the classic pearls spread across the nails or even only on the ring finger to create a more classical wedding vibe.

Blue Hues

We are going to see blue comeback again this Autumn after being a trend all summer long with pastels and neons. This Autumn blue abstract nails will be super popular, as well as the classic royal blue and mismatched blue shade nails. Cobalt and baby blue will be super popular, especially as french tips or as ombre designs.
